Academy School prides itself on providing meaningful instruction to all students. This means that we meet students where they are academically and socially, and we instruct at their current level of comfort to ensure growth. Third Graders will experience choices in as many academic areas as possible, and they will have the opportunity to move around and share with one another as they learn.
Third Grade Academics

In Third Grade, students continue with the FUNdations program. This is the year that they get to learn cursive! Additionally, students work in guided reading groups to hone their reading and comprehension skills. The bulk of guided reading material relates to thematic units of study. Students will also be reading books such as, Gooney Bird Greene, Franny K. Stein, I Survived the Battle of Gettysburg, Stone Fox, and Hot Time Hades!
Literacy
Students in Third Grade will be asked to write several times a day, both within other academic times, such as guided reading groups, and math; but also as part of a journal entry or a Writer's Workshop. Students will be able to write opinion, narrative, and informational pieces by the end of 3rd grade!
