Week of 10/2-10/6
Hi Families,
I hope you are all having a wonderful week! We have started many new units this week. In Fundations, students are learning about the 1-1-1 rule with suffixes. They are also working on their cursive and identifying homophones. In reading groups, students are reading their chapter books or StoryWorks Jr. articles. We have recently read a nonfiction text about the Titanic. Students are working on understanding the vocabulary and being able to use the text to find evidence to comprehension questions. They are also working on their fluency, specifically their expression. In writing, students are continuing to work on Opinion Pieces. They have been writing about what they believe is the best season. The students are using at least three details to persuade someone else about the season they chose. The students are also typing these papers to work on their typing fluency.
Students finished their Mid-Module Assessment in math this week. They did a wonderful job. We are continuing to work on the distributive and commutative properties of multiplication. Students are also learning how to use tape diagrams to model their thinking. Students also learned a new math game this week, Array Capture!
There are a lot of scientists working in the third grade. We have started our Weather and Climate Unit. Students have been making observations about the weather around them. We also conducted an experiment to see where jeans would dry the fastest and why. We are currently working on understanding the Water Cycle. Ask your child about the book we are reading, Drinking Cleopatra’s Tears.
Remember: You can find a lot of helpful information on our class blog! If you go to the Academy Website, click on faculty, and then click on the K-3 Team. Please then find my picture on the K-3 staff page. You will see a link to our classroom website underneath the paragraph about me. The Helpful Links tab on our classroom website has the links to websites we use in the classroom, such as Typing Club. The usernames and passwords for Typing Club are their first names.
I hope you all have a great long weekend! Please make sure your child is reading over the long weekend!
Miss Plympton
