Week of 10/23-10/27

Hello Families!

I hope you all had a great week. In Fundations, students took their Unit 3 test on multisyllabic words! They did wonderful! I am very impressed with their spelling skills. Our next unit will be on vowel consonant e exceptions and adding suffixes to these words.

The students completed their Eureka Module 1 Assessment this week. They collectively did an awesome job being able to apply their knowledge to solve multiplication and division word problems. We will review these assessments at conferences. It is extremely important that students continue to practice their multiplication facts (1’s to 5’s) at home. If you need suggestions on how to practice, please email me! I can also share strategies at conferences. We are now working on Module 2, which focuses on time, measurement, rounding, and place value.

In reading, students have been working on making inferences based on a text. Inferences are educated guesses based off of clues. For example, students looked at a picture of young children on a stage in tutus. They made an inference that they are probably ballet dancers that are going to perform for a recital. Students are then using these inferencing skills they have learned to make inferences in the books they are reading.

It is important that students are reading each night, or the equivalence of 20 minutes a night each week (about 100 minutes a week). I will be sending two types of forms home to track students’ progress. One is called My Shelfie, and students write down their book titles when they have completed the book. They also rate the books on a 5 star scale. Another form will contain a place to log each time your child reads, with a parent signature. They do not have to complete both but I will be requiring one of the forms to be complete to track progress. I will have these forms available at conferences.

If you are unaware of your conference time, please email me at nplympton@wsesu.org or call. If you have not signed up for a conference, please email me as well.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Miss Plympton
